He was born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat, British India (now in Pakistan), and passed away on July 8, 2016, in Karachi, Pakistan.

Early Life:

Edhi's early life was marked by the hardships of partition in 1947, during which he and his family migrated to Pakistan. His personal experiences with poverty and the suffering of people around him deeply influenced his later commitment to humanitarian work. Edhi started his charitable activities at a young age, initially by helping his mother distribute clothes and food to the needy in his community.

In 1951, at the age of 23, Abdul Sattar Edhi established the Edhi Foundation with a mission to provide healthcare, social services, and emergency assistance to those in need. The organization grew rapidly, and over the years, it expanded its services to include orphanages, hospitals, ambulance services, morgues, and homes for the elderly and abandoned children. The Edhi Foundation's services were not limited to Pakistan; it also carried out relief work in various international disasters.

One of Edhi's most significant contributions was the establishment of the Edhi Ambulance Service, which became the largest volunteer ambulance organization in the world. The service provided free and timely transportation of the sick and injured to medical facilities. Edhi himself became a symbol of selflessness, dedicating his life to the service of humanity. He lived a simple life, often wearing modest clothes and residing in a small room adjacent to the Edhi Foundation's headquarters in Karachi.

Throughout his life, Abdul Sattar Edhi received numerous awards and honors for his humanitarian work, both nationally and internationally. Despite facing criticism and challenges, he remained committed to his cause, emphasizing the importance of empathy, compassion, and selfless service.

Abdul Sattar Edhi's legacy continues through the Edhi Foundation, which remains a vital institution in Pakistan, providing essential services to those in need. His life and work have inspired many individuals around the world to engage in charitable activities and contribute to the betterment of society.
